NEW YORK – Hill+Knowlton Strategies, a leading global public relations and communications firm, announced that Antonio Tamayo has been named President and CEO of its Latin America region, effective today. Tamayo, who has served as President of H+K Mexico for 17 years and led some of the region’s most important client accounts, will report to H+K Global Chairman Jack Martin.
He assumes the role previously held by Dr. Luis de la Calle, a distinguished former official in the highest levels of the Mexican government, who will now serve as Senior Advisor for H+K Latin America.
“Taking a broad look at the business, policy, media and social landscape in Latin America, it’s clear that there are now – and will continue to be – tremendous opportunities for our business across the region,” said Martin. “In light of these opportunities, I am appointing Antonio as President and CEO and Luis as Senior Advisor to our firm. These roles optimize their experience and credentials, and position H+K Strategies as a leader in a region with growing prominence in world markets. They will also enhance the development of our client service excellence in-region and expand collaboration across our global network, allowing us to better advise clients based in Latin America and those doing business in the region.”
Tamayo has extensive expertise in corporate communication services, particularly in crisis management, and with advising healthcare and pharmaceutical companies. He has had a long and distinguished career at H+K, and is a recognized leader within the firm, having provided counsel to clients including Pfizer, Nestlé and the International Diabetes Federation. Tamayo is also the Procter & Gamble client lead for Latin America.
“I can’t think of a better time to assume this responsibility, as each of our offices in the region is very well positioned to support our clients during these challenging but promising times,” said Tamayo. “I look forward to working closely with our country leaders to enhance Hill+Knowlton Strategies’ opportunities for sustainable growth in Latin America.”
A seasoned professional with experience across North, Central and South America, Tamayo previously served in executive roles with Sidektur and Camino Real/Westin Hotels. In addition, Tamayo held an executive position with Bermudez & Associates, a California-based advertising, marketing and public relations company.
A native of Mexico City, Tamayo holds a B.A. in business administration from the National University of Mexico where he also completed graduate course work in international relations.
Tamayo is the former president of PRORP (the Mexican public relations agencies association) and he frequently speaks at major colleges and conferences.
